THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!
If you’re here, you probably have been challenged by some deep stressors: Circumstances out of your control, managing expectations of school and parents, dealing with difficult social sh*t and maybe even questioning your own mental health and stability. Perhaps you’re spending your days a bit confused about how to find solutions and your nights feeling the feels.
If so, welcome to your journey to wellness! We recommend that your wellness take on a holistic approach, meaning physical, intellectual, emotional, social, cultural and spiritual, to cultivate a healthy and balanced life that sets the foundation for the rest of your teen years and into adulthood.
PHYSICAL HEALTH: Prioritize exercise, a balanced diet, and adequate sleep. Physical activity not only boosts fitness but also enhances mood and cognitive function. Walk your dog, breathe in some fresh air and reset your emotional states.
EMOTIONAL HEALTH: Navigating a multitude of emotions is typical during adolescence. It is perfectly healthy to release pent up emotions and really feel it. A good cry can be self-soothing while releasing oxytocin and endorphins, the feel-good chemicals in our brain. When in doubt, cry it out.
SOCIAL HEALTH: Building positive connections with peers, family, and mentors are crucial to your overall well-being. But you may need to set boundaries with those who interfere with your wellness. Know when to seek help if needed. Find a trusted mentor for guidance!
INTELLECTUAL GROWTH: Be curious. Think critically. Learn something new. A love for learning expands your experiences, increases your range of knowledge and your intellectual power.
SPIRITUAL WELLNESS: Foster your sense of purpose and connection to something greater than yourself. Lean into a practice that works for you. Meditation? Mindfulness? Prayer? Crystals? Bring in elements and objects that represent a deeper spiritual purpose.
CULTURAL WELLNESS: Lean into cultural and heritage based ritual and traditions. This will give you a greater sense of belonging to a group with shared experiences. Building connections with culture shapes your identity and helps you feel grounded.
LIFESTYLE CHOICES: Avoid risky behaviors like alcohol, drugs or any other substances that alter your state of being. Always practice safe sex
Overall, a holistic approach to wellness will empower you to make informed choices, manage challenges, and thrive in your teen years. Find good support networks with open communication to help nurture your journey to wellness.
